My husband and I are in the waiting-for-a-kid stage in adopting. We decided that if we were going to get to Hawaii before we were old, we had better go before the kids come. We had just gone through around a year without work and could finally afford the trip when my husband got his present job. We decided to go for our dreams and hit the big island. We had such a wonderful time. We spent 10 days on the Big Island snorkeling, exploring, relaxing, and just plain having fun. We stayed in Kailua Kona in a small condo-style hotel. It was nice being able to just walk across the street to the beach and wade in the water with the fish and turtles. I especially loved snorkeling with the turtles. That was a memory for a life-time. The fish were amazing and huge. We went on a Kodiak boat ride, combo snorkel excursion that was really fun. My husband’s favorite thing was the luau. It was really fun. I took a hula lesson, got a temporary tatoo, ate great food, learned how to open a coconut, and watched a spectacular program. We also enjoyed going to the northern and eastern sides of the island. We loved Waipio Valley, although we only walked part-way down the steep road. We loved driving through the scenic routes on eastern shore. We went to a beautiful botanical garden that we spent hours at. We enjoyed Rainbow Falls, Boiling Pots, and the Hilo Zoo. On the south shore we saw Black Sands beach in the evening and went through the Thurston Lava tube in the dark and rain. It was so much fun! We even loved the local fruits and vegetables. The avocados are huge!!

I would love to come back again. My husband asked me, “Why didn’t we move here when we first got married?” It was the vacation of a life.
