Accommodations, activities, tour operators and other businesses in the tourism industry on the island of Hawaii are increasingly “going green,” or conducting their operations with an ethic and practices of sustainability. Some have been doing this for awhile, others are just beginning. But all realize that doing so is vitally important if the Island is to continue to offer quality experiences to the million and a half visitors from around the world who visit here annually.

In this section, we provide capsule summaries for a variety of these tourism operations, which highlight some of their primary sustainable practices.
This is a new website, so the list is one that is being added to regularly. For these – and for any business here that you encounter – don’t be afraid to politely inquire about what they are doing in their operation to contribute to sustainability. Asking questions makes them aware that visitors are both concerned and interested in the importance of sustainability practices.
