12th Annual “Run For Hope”
Hawaii Island agricultural specialties make wonderful gifts, and there are lots of choices, ranging from exotic fresh flowers, jams and jellies made from local tropical fruits, to coffee, wine and chocolates.
Two of Hawaii’s most famous products—macadamia nuts and Kona coffee—support thriving industries on the Big Island. Besides being able to purchase mac nuts in a wide variety of yummy preparations and Kona coffee in various roasts or even with exotic flavorings (including mac nut!), you can also visit farms and mills to buy direct and see how the products are processed. Many of these establishments will also ship your purchases home or to friends anywhere in the world.
One of the nicknames for Hawaii Island is “the Orchid Isle,” and it’s a well-earned moniker, with lots of nurseries growing what seem like infinite varieties of orchids. And that’s just one part of our island’s exotic flower industry that also grows anthuriums, protea, ginger and other tropical flowers. You’ll find these in retail stores, roadside stands (some of which charmingly use the honor system, asking you to leave a few dollars when you choose your flowers), and at the nurseries too. Treat yourself to a bouquet for your room, or a lei to make your day special, or ask a nursery to ship flowers.

Another great gift idea from Hawaii Island: hand-crafted products made from locally grown native and exotic woods like milo, mango, koa, Norfolk pine, and even coconut. Hawaii Island’s world-class woodworkers carve these woods into everything from bowls, salad utensils and chopsticks, to exquisite furniture and sculptures.
You can find our home-grown gifts all over the island, including at farmer’s markets, retail stores and direct from the farms, nurseries, mills, processors and artisans. Some possibilities:
