Paniolo Hall of Fame

Hawaii’s star cattle ropers and bronco riders now have a place of honor at the Paniolo Hall of Fame in the historic cowtown of Waimea. Located in the Parker Ranch headquarters, the exhibit is free and open to the public.

Here you’ll get a glimpse into the world of the Hawaiian cowboys (“paniolo”) who have made history on the range for nearly 200 years. The 94 members represent all of the Hawaiian Islands. Photo portraits and short biographies of inductees—including 19 with ties to the Big Island’s Parker Ranch—are on display.

Here you’ll meet the legendary Ikua Purdy, who wowed the cowboy world when he captured the 1908 World Roping Championship in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Then there’s Kingo Gushikuma, a master saddle maker who designed saddles now adopted in Utah and Texas. Most recently, the 2007 induction included Parker Ranch Vice President of Livestock Michael “Corky” Bryan and former Parker Ranch Trustee Carl A. Carlson.

The Paniolo Hall of Fame is free and open Mon. – Fri. 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at:
